PROFESSIONAL SECURITY GUARD CERTIFICATE

This course has been specifically designed to inspire professionalism and confidence in the security guard. The program brings essential skills to the security guard and includes the JIBC certification course and well as additional skills vital to security professionals. This course runs over a 10-day period and the participants will receive the JIBC certification on successful completion, as well as other course certificates.

BASIC SECURITY TRAINING BST

The purpose of this 40-hour mandatory security course developed by the Justice Institute of British Columbia was to meet the training needs of security personnel, by providing standardised practical training for those who seek a career in security. The course prepares participants to carry out their mandate as security professionals in a safe, effective and professional manner.

ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY AWARENESS

A fundamental concept in security design that is based on the premise that effective use and manipulation of the physical environment can reduce criminal behaviour. This course introduces the basic principles of “awareness” of the environment and your surroundings while performing security duties. This course will assist those who wish to hone their skill and become more adept at recognising security risk.

PATROL TACTICS & TECHNIQUES

This course provides security guards with knowledge on the various types of patrol assignments such as foot and mobile patrols. The advantages and disadvantages of each will be discussed. The patrol function is one of the most complex, difficult, and most highly visible of all security activities. One of the first things a security guard should be aware of is that a uniformed patrol force goes a long way in the areas of crime prevention, the apprehension of individuals committing offences, and, in general, the preservation of the peace.

REPORT WRITING FOR PRIVATE SECURITY PROFESSIONALS

This course will assist the security individual to become a true professional with the ability to comprehensively and effectively communicate through well written reports. The course will lay out what a report is, how it is used to communicate and explain the different types of reports.

TWO WAY RADIO PRACTICES

A two-way radio when used correctly becomes a vital communication tool for work site; hospitals, road construction, schools, construction sites etc. They are used for communicating information in a timely manner are can be a key in providing an efficient and safe work environment.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Conflict is an inevitable part of work. We’ve all seen situations where people with different goals and needs have clashed, and we’ve all witnessed the often-intense personal animosity that can result. The fact that conflict exists, however, is not necessarily a bad thing. When you resolve it effectively, you can also eliminate many of the hidden problems that it brought to the surface. The course will provide the participants with a simple process to follow for conflict resolution in the workplace and to create confidence when dealing with conflict.

PROFESSIONAL WORK ETHICS

This course is designed to give the participant an understanding of good general ethics in the workplace and is based on best practice. The course gives a solid overview of professional business ethics at work and in life. The course covers decision making, which is often difficult, especially when we are be faced with challenging situations where tough decisions need to be made – making the right choice based on your professionalism.

OFA 1

This one-day certification course meets first aid requirements for Work Safe BC OFA Level 1. Upon successful completion, candidates will be issued a Work Safe BC Occupational First Aid certificate. Participants will learn emergency scene management, minor wound care, CPR and AED training. This course is for British Columbia only all other provinces it is the 2-day Standard First Aid.

TRANSPORTATION ENDORSEMENT

This one-day certification course focuses specifically on the transport of injured workers to medical aid. There will be a review of OFA 1 standard and critical airway breathing and C-spine management. This course will cover patient handling and lifting techniques as well as spine board and basket immobilization. This course is only for British Columbia.
