CONFINED SPACE ENTRY AWARENESS
The objective of this course is to give the participant the knowledge to recognize a confined space and what makes it dangerous. The participant will understand the hazards associated with entering confined spaces and demonstrate basic understanding of the methods of controlling these risks. The participant will also learn what their responsibility is when working in a confined space.
Course Content:
- Identify characteristics of a confined space
- Recognize the hazards inherent with confined space work
- Hazard Assessments conducted for confined space
- Standby Attendant – who and what is their function
- Hatchwatch Duties
- Entry permits and their use
- Safe entry into a confined space
Duration – 4 hours
Number of Participants – Maximum 20
Certifying Body – Domcor Health, Safety & Security Inc.
Certificate Expiry – 3 years
CONFINED SPACE ENTRY RESCUE AWARENESS
Using a combination of classroom discussion and skill-based training, participants will develop the ability to initiate and conduct non-entry confined space rescue. Participants will gain insight into hazard identification, assessment and control, incident response, regulatory requirements for entry and rescue, first responders’ roles and responsibilities and limitations of standard and specialized confined space equipment.

CONFINED SPACE RESCUE
This 3 day course is a comprehensive look at confined space rescue and all of the equipment used in performing rescue duties. The course takes place over a three day period and the participants will have the opportunity to view and work with the equipment used in rescue operations.
- Confined Space Theory:
A power point review of the pre-requisite material (OSH E – Confined Space Entry material) will be completed, and reference will be made to where participants can access refresher OSH E materials.
- Rescue Principles and Equipment Review:
Using a combination of classroom PPT presentation, video, group discussion, group presentations and knowledge evaluation the participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the Confined Space Rescue principles, retrieval methods and equipment used in confined space rescue operations.
- Practical Hands on Component:
Using a combination of demonstration, group discussion and skill-based training, participants will develop the ability to initiate and conduct confined space rescue. Through this training the participants will gain insight into hazard identification, assessment and control, incident response, regulatory requirements for entry and rescue, first responders’ roles and responsibilities, casualty packaging, retrieval, documentation, uses and limitations of standard and specialized confined space equipment.
Practical hands on training including instruction and individual and team/group practice, will allow the participants to experience first-hand the application of the equipment, including the ability to tie rescue knots, package casualties, and make use of retrieval equipment.
Duration – 24 hours
Number of Participants – Maximum 12
Certifying Body – Domcor Health, Safety & Security Inc.
Prerequisites: Minimum OFA 1 & TE
Certificate Expiry – 3 years
PPE – Fall protection harness if the participant owns one
CONFINED SPACE IDENTIFICATION
Risk Assessment, Written Procedures, Training
This is a service provide by Domcor for confined space identification and risk assessment services. The service will include the review of engineering drawings for the purpose of the identification of confined spaces. Complete an associated confined space risk assessment, and provide written procedures for the entry of the confined space according to the regulations as set out by WorkSafe BC. We will also provide the level of training required for confined space entry hatch watch or confined space rescue awareness or confined space rescue as per the client’s requirements. The process followed to for these services includes the following steps:
List of services provided:
- Drawing Review
- Onsite Assessment
- Review and Categorize Fieldwork (Review of CS Identification and categorization)
- Hazard Assessment
- Development of site specific Safe Work Procedures
- Develop Rescue Procedures and requirements for equipment and training
- Compilation of documentation and procedures into a working document
- Training of workers
Drawing Review of Detailed Design
Review the detailed design drawings and identify the following:
Identification of confined space structures or considered to be confined space entry utilities.
Onsite Assessment (Site visit)
The site visit would include a viewing of each identified confined space, photograph each identified confined space, and conduct atmospheric tests on each confined space.
Review and Categorize Fieldwork
(Review of CS Identification and categorization)
This would include the categorization of each confined space into similar risk profiles including entry procedure and process.
Hazard Assessment
Completion of a hazard assessment of each confined space and corresponding category. Summarised by category. Identifying and assessing existing and potential hazards based on:
- Atmospheric conditions
- Safety requirements
- Work delegation
- Human factors
CONFINED SPACE IDENTIFICATION (Continued)
Development of site specific Safe Work Procedures
This will include the safe work procedures for each of the identified categories for the confined spaces
Develop Rescue Procedures
Rescue procedures will identify the processes and procedures for the extraction/rescue from each of the categories of identified confined spaces.
Compilation of documentation and procedures into a working document
This would include the compilation of companies Procedures Manual for Confined Spaces at the site location.
Training for Confined Space:
The training will be detailed as per the client’s requirements and will include either:
Confined Space Entry Hatch / Watch (4 Hrs) or
Confined Space Rescue Awareness (8 Hrs) or
Confined Space Rescue (24 Hrs)
Dependent on the training requested the training could include:
Combination of classroom discussion and skill-based training, to develop the ability to initiate and conduct non-entry confined space rescue. Participants will gain insight into hazard identification, assessment and control, incident response, regulatory requirements for entry and rescue, first responders’ roles and responsibilities and limitations of standard and specialized confined space equipment.
